With three Handicaps done and dusted the second half of the season will begin with a journey to the cold northern wastes of
Tintwistle.
The 2010 course, a new one for the start of a new decade, starts in the village as usual, somewhere near the Memorial wherever Dave can park his van. The route then goes out to the twin hills of Hobson Moor and Harridge Pike - both provide grand views over Greater Manchester but those of you with a more sensitive disposition can always keep looking the other way towards Black Hill and Arnfield Moor. You can even see Alphin Pike, the 'absolutely no recceing' final checkpoint of the Chew Valley Skyline - you only get to run it once every ten years !! There are five checkpoints; you MUST do Freddie's Cairn last but the others can be done in any order. 4th January - NOTE COURSE CHANGE 022973 Start & Finish Memorial Green in the centre of Tintwistle. 003995 Bench at the track junction at the south-west corner of Upper Swineshaw reservoir. 019002 Footbridge at junction of path and Ogden Brook. 982981 Junction of two tracks and three paths. 988980 Trig column on Hobson Moor. 022980 Freddie's Cairn just east of path. This will be clearly marked and MUST be visited LAST. Maps, etc. will be provided but please bring a poly bag and a biro/pencil. The Junior race will, as ever, follow the Senior race. Post-event relaxation and celebrations will be in the Bull's Head. Apologies to those people who've already recced the course but I think you'll find the new section 'interesting' terrain-wise, depending on your choice of route Simon |
