This year, we'll be taking a trip over to Dovestones. It starts wherever Dave can park his van near to the memorial in Tintwistle (022973). There are just four checkpoints: 1 Shooting cabin doorstep 030994 2 Christmas tree 036014 3 Path junction 029020 (This junction DOES exist on the ground, as do the paths) 4 Top of the big rock 021021 They MUST be run in this order and the run out to the shooting cabin MUST be along Arnfield Lane and the track. The fields to the north of Arnfield Lane are out of bounds. Please do not climb the gate at the start of the lane. Maps will be provided – please bring a poly bag to keep them legible as your control answers will have to be written on the maps; hence please bring something to write with to note down the checkpoint letters. This is a demanding run over leg sapping terrain (lots of heather). It's in an area that most will be less familiar with. We often get bad weather for this race, so make sure you bring the appropriate kit and I would suggest that you carry a mobile phone. I haven't actually run the route as described yet, but anticipate a winning time of between 1hr:20 and 1hr:30 in reasonable conditions. Post race hospitality is in the Bull's Head in Tintwistle. There will be a new, more interesting, kids' course including a stream crossing. It does require a ten-minute walk to the start at GR 017979, but I think it will be worth it. Parents can get a pretty good view of most of the course and someone with a video camera might well be able to get a decent film if anyone's interested (and if it isn't chucking it down). Simon
