The Junior Glossop course is a straightforward but fast one - a steep initial climb followed by an ever-speedier run across
the moor and then down to the finish. I was a little concerned about the ponies grazing on the route while I was marking it
out but the posse of parents who went out to forestall any problems weren't needed as the animals were more interested in
eating grass than interfering with a fell race.
Thirteen juniors contested this one, with Cullum Gibbons having a fine run to come home first, followed by Lucas Parker and
the remarkably quick Joe Brooks, who is proving as hard to handicap as Thomas Craig was last year !!
Fastest runner was Joe in 7.00, followed by his sister Amy on 7.21 and a determined Matthew Warhurst with 7.35.
Hedda Smith was slowed considerably by a turned ankle but everyone else survived the fast descent through the tussocks and
the certificate gathering back at Firth Rixon was embellished by the birthday cake brought by Emily Topliss and shared out
among the Juniors.
Thanks again to all the adults for their help - we'll certainly need it at Chunal in a fortnight on the most
marshal-intensive course we have - and to the runners for their enthusiasm
